The HMRC has recently introduced a new National Insurance & PAYE system and is currently issuing tax coding notices for the first time. However the transition to the new system has highlighted discrepancies in their existing records and this is resulting in a number of incorrect Coding Notices being issued. They have identified three key areas where this may occur: 1) a previous employment stopped some time ago but the system has not picked this up and a new Coding Notice has been issued. 2) two notices have been sent for the same employment. 3) the code BR (basic tax) or DO (higher rate tax) has been given for an employment or pension for the first time.

An open letter from the new Director General of the Equality and Human Rights Commission
Dear colleague,
I would like to invite you to participate in the online consultation on the Equality and Human Rights Commission's draft non statutory guidance on employment; services, public functions and associations; and education to support implementation of the Equality Bill.
The new Equality Bill is the most significant piece of equality legislation for many years. It will simplify, streamline and strengthen the law. It will give individuals greater protection from unfair discrimination and will make it easier for employers and companies to understand their responsibilities. It will also set a new standard for those who provide public services to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Inline with our statutory powers, the Equality and Human Rights Commission is producing non statutory guidance to cover all aspects of the Equality Bill once it becomes law. The main purpose of this guidance is to help people understand the Equality Act and how it will affect them.

Taxpayers should NOT respond to any email promising a tax repayment HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has warned.
Fraudsters are sending out thousands of emails in the run up to the 31 January tax deadline. The email tells the recipient they are due a tax refund and directs them to an online form to provide bank or credit card details for the 'rebate' to be paid into. Anyone providing details would have their accounts emptied and credit cards used to their limit.
The vicitim also risks having their personal details sold on to other organised criminal gangs.

There are still opportunities for local Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations to get involved. Future Jobs Fund will provide funding to employ someone for 6 months, minimum wage. It is a great opportunity to offer someone who has been unemployed for a while the chance to make a difference and improve skills, confidence and self-esteem.
