Voluntary Action Rotherham

Financial Inclusion Strategy

Rotherham’s strategy is contained in the document, Financial inclusion in Rotherham 2008-2011, and has been developed through consultation with over 150 individuals and organisations in Rotherham.

A revision of the action plan has recently taken place, at the project's half-way point. The revised plan can be downloaded here.

We aim to:

  • Co-ordinate existing and develop new local services designed to tackle the effects of financial exclusion
  • Stimulate and support new innovative ideas in the delivery of interventions to overcome financial exclusion
  • Promote and advocate for financial inclusion at local, regional and national level
  • Identify, promote and share good practice amongst professionals and organisations working in the field

Financial inclusion is high on the national political agenda. In December 2007 the Treasury announced a further £31m to be made available for a variety of initiatives. We intend to continue to strengthen our engagement with national strategies, programmes and campaigns.

The strategy is overseen by the Financial Inclusion Strategy Team. The team is drawn from a wide network of individuals and organisations in Rotherham who are involved or interested in financial inclusion. It consists of about 16 representatives from the public, voluntary and community and private sectors and meets regularly to oversee the implementation of the Financial Inclusion Strategy.
