To celebrate Rotherham Community Lottery turning 1 this February, we are sharing the stories of a handful of Causes that are signed up and how we have supported them on their journey so far. Below is a bit more information about Women Wellness Matters.

My name is Tamseela Shahid, and I am the Chairperson and a personal trainer with "Women Wellness Matters," a community group focused on empowering women’s wellness in Rotherham.

"Women Wellness Matters" is dedicated to breaking down cultural, religious, and economic barriers that prevent women from prioritizing their health. We offer free fitness sessions that are culturally sensitive and inclusive, providing women a safe space to engage in physical activity. Our activities extend beyond fitness; we also organize community awareness events and offer personalized support for mental health challenges, fostering holistic well-being.

I started this initiative because I recognised the silent struggles many women face in accessing health resources. As a fitness coach, I wanted to create a movement that empowers women, making wellness a priority in their lives. I dedicate my time to this cause because I believe in the transformative power of community support. Seeing women thrive and overcome barriers is incredibly fulfilling and motivates me to continue this important work.

Our main challenges have included addressing the various barriers women face, including cultural hesitance and economic constraints. Additionally, raising awareness and ensuring accessibility in our offerings has been an ongoing challenge.

VAR has been instrumental in supporting us throughout our journey. They have provided invaluable guidance and resources whenever I needed advice, helping us navigate challenges and expand our reach within the community. Their support has been crucial to our success and has strengthened our mission to empower Rotherham women.

You can support Women Wellness Matters on their Lottery page and give them a follow them on Facebook.
