To celebrate Rotherham Community Lottery turning 1 this February, we are sharing the stories of a handful of Causes that are signed up and how we have supported them on their journey so far. First up is Brecks Community Hub!
I am Jodie Goodall, Company Director of the Brecks Community Hub CIC.
The Brecks Community Hub is a multi-purpose space, offering a wide range of activities from crafts, to exercise classes, baby groups, coffee afternoons and indoor mat bowling. It is also available to hire for social groups, meetings, and other events and both private and community-based activities.
I re-opened the community centre back in January 2022 after it had been closed for a number of years. My vision was to revive the building, and turn it into a hub of community activity once again. It is incredibly rewarding to watch our groups grow and make use of the facilities we have to offer. It makes it all worthwhile when you see people getting so much out of attending the sessions and making new friends. It is also very gratifying to be part of a volunteer's journey as they begin to take on new roles and responsibilities and become one of the team.
One of the biggest challenges has been getting people back into the building after such a long period of closure and Covid, and informing the general public about what we do and where we are.
VAR have been incredibly supportive since day one. They have helped with finding funding for various projects and given advice on the various funds that are available and how to apply for them. Working with the wonderful people at VAR has been incredibly beneficial to the growth and success of the Hub. They have helped promote our activities and services and have been on hand to give advice on finding volunteers and supported us through the process. VAR have even spent a day at the Hub during Volunteers week gardening!
